Oh I loved reading the reality of your process, how you mothered and created art and the overlapping of it all. So inspiring, relatable , beautiful. 🤍🤍🤍
Beautiful. I used to take tons of self-portraits and have pretty much stopped since my daughter was born (in 2021), this has inspired me to pick it up again and just embrace the windy road it may lead me down. Thank you so much for sharing.
I'm wishing I had of taken more than just phone selfies on the couch with my son after he was born - trying to make up for it now.
I started taking more self portraits during this last pregnancy, although I felt dreadful I pushed through semi-regularly, and I'm so grateful to myself already looking back on them.
Plus - it's so much fun. And you never know what you'll get when the kids join in haha
“I need the right light and I need to mother.” As a photographer myself, I relate to this single line so much. Constantly waiting for the right light, the right time, the opportunity to shoot.
I can see why studios with studio lighting is so appealing haha, but gosh there's something so beautiful about natural light photography. Just have to really practice patience!
Absolutely. I’ve made our spare room into a studio space mostly because it has one big, northwest-facing window. Sometimes I’ll add a light for fill but my favorite is just to play with the natural light from that window!
We are in a very small rental at the moment, I love small space living but it certainly makes finding a free window to shoot in a bit hard haha really hoping our next place has some windows big to play in front of with a little more space. Even better space for a studio 🤞🤞
Sometimes those constraints can force us to be extra creative! My old apartment didn’t have good lighting, so I learned to wait until the sun reflected off of the building across from us and into my bedroom
You've just inspired me to take some photos. Thank you!
Oh yay! Please tag me if you share them on substack so I can see 😍
