This one is, and was, a real challenge for me. I had had a big day in the kitchen doing food prep for the week and after picking Roo up from daycare it was time to get dinner on. The kitchen was a mess with clean dishes and dirty dishes and food off cuts. I can’t stand a messy kitchen, or a cluttered house. It stresses me out and I can’t think properly. I get really frustrated when I have to try to do anything in a messy space.
I had some cornstarch packaging from a delivery that day that dissolves in water and thought that would be a great thing for Roo to do while I quickly put dinner on. I probably don’t need to tell you that he LOVED it. What I didn’t anticipate was that the little bits that hadn’t fully dissolved would be splashed around the kitchen and all over the dry dishes. But watching his joy at being there, and the way he picked up some actual dishes to wash, all while looking like a little old man in his singlet and trackies, distracted me from the overwhelm I had of the situation. I stopped myself in the urgency of everything, picked up the camera, and snapped him right there in the moment. Not only was he playing and having fun, but he felt he so happy because he was helping his Mamma, and that’s just the loveliest thing of all.
Oh his little outfit hahahah the sweetest ever
